Barbara Jean Kartman, 87, of Platteville, formerly of Lancaster and rural Cassville, died Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Edenbrook of Platteville.
Barbara was born in Waterloo Township, Grant County, the daughter of Ben and Dora (Blackbourn Seitz) Jackering. She graduated from Lancaster High School and on October 9, 1956, she married Carter Kartman. Together they farmed in Waterloo Township. In addition to working on the farm and raising four daughters, she was also employed at the Lancaster Nursing Home for several years.
She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling with friends, going to casinos and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known for her sunny disposition and hearty laugh.
Survivors include her four daughters: Rebecca Bloyer, Lancaster, Jackie Lehmann, rural Cassville, Tammy (David) Huff, Cottage Grove, and Lori (Bryan Bradshaw) Kartman, Cassville; one sister, Janet Blum, Lancaster; 9 grandchildren: Steven (Trudi) and Spencer Lehmann, Logan (Maggie), Brigham (Buddy) and Mason Huff, Amber Kartman, Taylor (Aaron Whiskus) Hugill and Colton and Caden Kartman; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Carter; half-brothers, Kenneth and Monroe Seitz, brothers-in-law, Doran Kartman, Jr. and Virgil Blum; sister-in-law, RoxAnn Kartman Boyes; son-in-law, Robert Bloyer and great-granddaughter, Sophia Huff.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 1, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1234 S Madison Street, Lancaster. Private family burial will be held on Tuesday at St. Clement Cemetery, South Lancaster Township. Family and friends may visit on Monday from 4:30 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
