Charles Lee “Charlie” Truitt, age 85, of Potosi, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at his home. He was born on November 8, 1940, in Novinger, MO, the son of Orien A. and Vivian C. (Kelly) Truitt. Charlie graduated from Novinger High School in 1959. In February of 1962, he entered the United States Army and served his country until his honorable discharge in February of 1965. On August 6, 1966, Charlie was united in marriage to Carolyn “Carol” Clary. They made their home in Potosi and Charlie was employed at John Deere in Dubuque until his retirement in 1995. He also owned and operated Truitt Repair until his health made it difficult for him to be in the garage. Charlie loved working on cars, camping, traveling and playing cards. He had a collection of cars that he restored: 1940 Chevy Sedan and 1948 F1 pick-up; he purchased new a 1969 Ford Trino GT. Charlie was a generous and humble man who displayed a strong work ethic.

Survivors include his three children: Connie Truitt, Potosi, Charles “Chuck” Truitt, Dyersville, IA, Chad (Jodie) Truitt, Hazel Green; his favorite child, Max; three grandchildren: Keondric Schoenberger, Des Moines, IA, Gavyn Schoenberger, Potosi, and Deric Schoenberger, Des Moines; twin brother, John Dee (Edith) Truitt, Sun City, AZ; nieces: Tina, Carla, Kelly, Julie, and Linda; nephews: Mark and Chris; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his sisters: Phyllis Ann Truitt, Helen Woller, Sherry Kuhlman and Patricia “Pat” Truitt; a sister-in-law, Sheryl Truitt; nephews, Marc Kuhlman and Tom Woller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Steve Brunner officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends may visit on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory in Potosi is entrusted with his care.

The family would like to thank Tri-State Dialysis Team of Platteville and Dubuque, Dr. Whalen, Dr. Ringold, and Dr. Powers, Finely Hospital 5th Floor team, Dubuque Hospice, Stonehill and Potosi Rescue Squad for their care and compassion.
