Craig Robert Casey

BAGLEY - Craig Robert Casey, affectionately known as “Bear” or “Sugar Bear,” 72 of Bagley, Wisconsin, passed away at his home on September 7, 2026. Born on July 29, 1954, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Craig lived a life defined by kindness, humor, and a deep appreciation for the people and passions that surrounded him.

Craig grew up in the Lake Geneva, WI area and resided in Oconomowoc, WI for a great deal of his life. Craig cherished his time with his hunting buddies at Grandma Edith’s and Uncle Frank’s in Arkdale, WI, where shared hunts, good company, and lots of laughter. Taught to pitch by his father, Robert “Bob” Casey, Craig excelled as a baseball pitcher throughout high school and college. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, he spent a decade working on the railroad — a career he often said, “ran through his blood.” He later built a distinguished career in transportation, serving in executive and senior management roles, and retired from Schwerman Trucking in 2020.

Craig’s kindness was his hallmark; anyone who knew him could attest to his generous spirit and warm heart. He found joy in ice fishing, goose and deer hunting, visiting historical museums and battlefields, brewing craft beer, and cheering for his favorite teams — the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, and Green Bay Packers. Above all, Craig cherished conversations with close friends and family, sharing treasured stories that reflected his love for life and the people in it.

Craig is survived by his half-brother Gary V. Knutson (La Farge, WI); nephews Casey Knutson (Prairie du Chien, WI) and Seth Knutson (Helena, MT); nieces Sue Ann Casey (Elkhorn, WI) and Colleen Knutson (Panama City, FL); great-niece Jocelyn Casey (Elkhorn, WI); great-nephew Huxley Casey (Elkhorn, WI); cherished cousin Monte Thompson (Fallbrook, CA); and dear lifelong friend Mark Buelke (Chilton, WI), as well as numerous cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved hunting dogs Buck and Chance Casey; father Robert Casey; mother Cecilia Casey (nee Beaver); brother Brent Casey; half-brother Ronnie Knutson; and other family members and close friends.

Craig’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Craig’s life will be scheduled in the near future, where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and love in his honor.
