Gerald L. Krohn, age 95, of Beetown, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. He was born on April 12, 1931, in Lancaster, the son of Elmer and Ethel (Taylor) Krohn. Gerald attended Lancaster schools until he was needed on the farm with Grover Houghton. He was united in marriage on February 20, 1950, to Ruth Landon at the Lancaster United Methodist Church Parsonage. After their marriage, the couple were employed at the Depot in Savannah, IL until Gerald was drafted into the United States Army. Ruth accompanied Gerald stateside while he served his country for two years. After his honorable discharge, the couple returned to Grant County where they farmed outside of Beetown and raised their three daughters. Gerald was a 4-H leader and a Grant Country Fair Superintendent. He loved playing cards, especially Euchre and Poker, fishing, and bowling. He even held the record for Wii Bowling at Orchard Manor. Gerald liked cars, convertibles and John Deere tractors. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his daughters: Vickie Krohn, Kathy (Rod) Schramm, and Sharon (Todd) Hammen; three grandchildren: Shelby (Bryce) Arnold, Trevor (fiancé Lizzy Neubauer) Hammen and Troy Hammen; half siblings: Gordon, Adele, Elmer, Beverly, Peggy and Cheryl; his in-laws: Leo, Cecil (Janice), and Ruby Landon; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2012; his foster parents, Grover (Freda) Houghton; foster sister, Florence Houghton; his half siblings: Randy, Judy, and Shirley; in-laws: Virgil, Maurice (Charlotte) Landon, Irene (John) Seippel, Phyllis (Gene) Klaas, and Clara Landon.
Funeral services will be on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory in Lancaster with David Martin officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
