PLATTEVILLE - Jay Allan Ploessl of Platteville, WI, passed away on June 7, 2026, at the age of 64. He was born on December 10, 1961, to Virgil (Butch) and Geri Ploessl in Cassville, WI. Jay graduated from UW Platteville with a BS in Comprehensive Social Sciences in 1986 and an MSEd in Counseling in 1993. As an undergrad at Platteville he played football, wrestled and was accepted to the Sigma Pi Fraternity.
Jay spent his professional career working in a field he loved, helping others, first as a guidance counselor in the Scales Mound and Port Edwards School districts and next as a Unit Coordinator for Allendale Association in Lake Villa, IL. Jay later became the Annual Education Department Chair and a Neurological Psychiatric Technician for St Therese Medical Center in Waukegan, IL. He finished his career as CPI Lead Instructor & Crisis Team Leader for Vista Health System again in Waukegan.
Jay was an avid Wisconsin sports fan throughout his life and spent a number of years as both an assistant and head coach in the Cassville, Scales Mound and Port Edwards school districts. He coached football, wrestling, basketball and baseball.
Jay lived a life of kindness, education, empathy, and love for his associates, family and friends. He was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader. Jay was also a self-taught genealogist and an armchair military historian. He helped many family members and friends trace their roots as far back as research would allow. Jay's gentle presence made the world feel a little softer. His memory will continue to inspire love, patience and compassion in all who knew him.
Jay leaves behind his siblings: Jackie Stone, Jill Schwartz, Lynne (Jeff) Kmet and Barry (Lisa) Ploessl; many nieces, nephews, fraternity brothers, workmates and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Butch and Geri and his dear brothers Randy and Rod.
