Joseph R. "Joe" Wagar

BEETOWN – Joseph R. “Joe” Wagar, age 86, of Beetown, Wisconsin, passed away on February 22, 2026, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster, Wisconsin. He was born September 3, 1939, the son of Eldon and Alice (Carlson) Wagar in Roseau, Minnesota. On August 25, 1962, he married the love of his life, Elinor Metcalf, at Beetown Gospel Hall, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned more than six decades. Joe dedicated approximately 35 years of service as a patrolman with the Grant County Highway Department. A true jack of all trades, he found joy in working with his hands—whether woodworking, upholstery, or fixing just about anything that needed repair. His faith was the cornerstone of his life. After finding salvation at the age of 13, Joe remained steadfast in his beliefs, living out his faith daily. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

Joe is survived by his wife, Elinor; children: David (Beth) Wagar, Lynn (Jamie) Wagar, Brenda (Dan) Odeen; daughter-in-law, Lori Wagar; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Ida (John) Berger; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, James Wagar; grandson, Bryce Odeen; sister, Ardell (Abraham) Bontreger; brother, Paul (Jan) Wagar; and an infant sibling.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory in Lancaster. Burial will be in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends may call on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kramer-Grau Funeral Home in Lancaster and Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers donations can be made to West Grant Rescue Squad, Potosi Rescue Squad, Cassville Rescue Squad, Lancaster Rescue Squad, and the Beetown Gospel Hall. Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
