Mary E. Pauley, age 96, of Burton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. She was born on March 20, 1929, in Glen Haven, the daughter of Clyde and Irene (Wildman) Skinner. Mary graduated from Cassville High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Lyle Adrian and he preceded her in death. Later, Mary was united in marriage to Harland “Tess” Pauley and together they owned and operated Pauley Bros. Tavern in Burton for 27 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Burton. Mary was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed watching game shows, playing cards with a “little snowshoe” on a snowy winter day, dice games with the neighbors, scratch off tickets and playing the poker machine. Mary also enjoyed reading scripture and crossword puzzles. She was a spirited lady who rode horses, snow mobiles, motorcycles and drove without a license. Mary’s greatest joy was her family. She loved watching her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren grow; she treasured their kisses, hugs, drawings, songs and prayers. She was anxious about the arrival of the two great-great grandchildren. Mary never had a cross word for anyone and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Nix; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and two on the way; special nieces and nephews; favorite fur buddy, Ringo; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Lyle and Tess; a son, Gary; and her siblings: Monroe, Eugene and Ruth “Tootie” Blindert.
