BAGLEY - Nicholas “Nick” Gotto, age 80, of Bagley, WI, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 8, 1945, in Lancaster, WI, Nick lived a life defined by hard work, devotion, and quiet strength. A proud farmer, he dedicated his life to the land, farming alongside his brother, Jim. Together, they cared for their family farm with unwavering commitment and pride, keeping it meticulously maintained—something Nick took great pride in.
Nick proudly served his country as a United States Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War. During his service, he worked as an aircraft mechanic, a role that showcased his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and mechanical skills. His military service was an essential part of his life and helped shape the steady, humble, and resilient man he became.
After his years of farming, Nick remained active and deeply connected to his community. He enjoyed working at Tractor Supply and later delivering mail for the Cassville Postal Service, where he met many great people and built lasting friendships. During his time as a mail carrier, Nick proudly carried on the family tradition started by his father—being the “candy man”—by leaving candy in mailboxes, a simple act of kindness that brought smiles and joy to many along his route.
Nick appreciated life’s simple pleasures. He loved his Dr. Pepper, his Camel cigarettes, and spending quiet time reading Louis L’Amour books. Some of his favorite moments were spent with friends—bowling, sharing a few drinks, playing cards, and enjoying good conversation around the neighborhood. These friendships meant a great deal to him and provided laughter and companionship throughout his life.
Above all, Nick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Together with his beloved wife, Susan, he built a life grounded in faith, love, and hard work. Their marriage was a true partnership—marked by mutual respect, shared values, and countless memories made side by side on the farm and beyond.
Nick was the proud father of five sons—Matt, Chris, Lee, John, and Joshua. He led by example, teaching his boys the value of honesty, perseverance, responsibility, and caring for others. He carried the loss of his infant son, Joshua, in his heart always, honoring his memory with quiet strength and enduring love.
Nick was a dedicated father, a loyal friend, and a man whose presence brought comfort and stability to those around him. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down, the land he cared for, and the many lives he touched through his kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his sons Matt, Chris (Kate), Lee (Becky), and John (Melissa);12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; his infant son, Joshua; his parents, Clarence and Margaret Gotto; his brothers, Fred and Jim; his sister, Maureen; and other beloved family members.
