After high school, he began his working life in soil conservation in Denison, Iowa, and later operated Bielenberg’s Pump Service in Charter Oak. In 1979, he relocated to Illinois, where he began a long and dedicated career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Dick retired in 1999 after more than forty years of service.
