CUBA CITY – Robert Lee Funk, age 97, of Cuba City, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at his home. He was born on February 16, 1929, in Fennimore, the son of William O. and Phyllis S. (Hinson) Funk. Robert attended Union School through the seventh grade. He farmed near Lancaster until 1950 when he enlisted in the United States Army. Robert attended boot camp at Ft. Dix in New Jersey and was stationed at Mammoth, NJ. He was on the front lines with the 2nd Division Combat Engineers during the Korean Conflict. In 1953, Robert received his honorable discharge and returned to farming. On May 27, 1956, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Atkinson in Dubuque, IA. Robert worked for Stanley Hatch, Becker & Tuckwood, and Croft as a heavy equipment operator. He later was employed by Pete Kirschbaum until the age of eighty, when he officially retired. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and mowing his lawn. He dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children: Dee (Bill) Hamilton, Patty (Paul) Rhoads, Bobby (Lori Kryer) Funk, Danny Funk, Phyllis (Pat) Tracy, Julie Paquette, and Jamey (Brenda) Funk; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings: Karen (Larry) Kane and Sharon (Jack) Gruender; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Funk; grandchildren: Jason Tracy and Kristy Hamilton; siblings: Betty (Monroe) Snyder, Mary (Matt) Fry, Stanley (RaeAnn) Funk, Mandel (Milly) Funk, and Perry Martens.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109, William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 and the DAV Chapter 40 will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
