Robert C. Landon

LANCASTER - Robert Charles “Bob” Landon, age 86, passed away on February 2, 2026, at home in Lancaster, Wisconsin. A proud Navy veteran, devoted father, and lifelong farmer, Bob lived a life marked by independence, determination, and a deep connection to the land he called home.

Born on July 26, 1939, in Ellenboro Township, Wisconsin, Bob was the son of Charles and Elva Landon. He grew up in southwest Wisconsin alongside his sisters Kathleen Reynolds, Karen Mallat, and Raenette Glass. From an early age, Bob demonstrated a sharp mind— particularly when it came to numbers—and a strong work ethic that would define his life.

After completing his high school education, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He served three years of active duty followed by time in the Naval Reserve. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life. Stationed in San Diego and assigned to sea duty aboard aircraft carriers, Bob was part of the crew responsible for pre-flighting planes—a role he often spoke about with enthusiasm and reverence.

Following his military service, Bob began working at John Deere in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1972, he took a leap that would shape the rest of his life: he purchased a farm in rural Lancaster. There he found fulfillment working the land and raising livestock. Farming became more than an occupation—it was a way of life that suited his independent spirit and tireless dedication.

Bob was married to Barbara Felder from 1962 to 1975. Together they had two infant sons, William and Jeffrey, who each passed away shortly after birth, and one daughter, Deborah. Bob remained closely connected to Deb throughout his life. The two shared many adventures over the years including attending NASCAR races across the country, visiting Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe, and celebrating Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans. Bob’s journeys also took him to see Wisconsin play in the Rose Bowl and to spend time with Deb and Greg at their homes in Ohio and Massachusetts.

In his later years, Bob continued to embrace life on his own terms. Whether driving around Grant County or tending to tasks around the farm, he remained fiercely self-reliant until the very end.

Bob faced personal losses with resilience—including the deaths of his infant sons William and Jeffrey; nephew Randy Reynolds; parents Charles and Elva Landon of Fennimore; sisters Kathleen Reynolds and Karen Mallat; and son-in-law Greg Holtkamp. He is survived by one sister, Raenette Glass, as well as nieces and nephews.

Bob is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Truman in Lafayette County, next to his sons and grandfather. May Bob’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration through the legacy of hard work and perseverance he leaves behind.
