Ruth A. Walsh, age 93, of Cassville, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 2, 2011. She was born on November 6, 1917, in a log home between Elkport and Littleport, IA, the daughter of Levi and Katherine (Wentz) Phelps. Ruth was united in marriage to Bernard Walsh. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Cassville, where she taught Sunday School, Royal Neighbors of America, and the Thorpe-Taylor American Legion Auxiliary. Ruth served in the Foster Grandparent Program of Grant County for over twenty-five years. She thought of each child as they were her own. Ruth always looked forward to family and friends, and her Iowa family visiting. She was a devoted grandmother and enjoyed playing cards with her friends in the Town and Country Card Club.
Survivors include her children: Robert Red Walsh, Ron Walsh, and Robin Rouse, all of Cassville; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Lucille) Phelps, Lancaster.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her children, Patrick Terry Walsh, Sharlene Kay Walsh, Patsy Jean Holden and Lawrence Tob Walsh, a great-great grandson, Riley Hatlevig, and her former husband, Bernard.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 7, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville. Burial was in Mount Harmony Cemetery, Elkport, IA. Family and friends called on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville and on Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
